Description

Name: Uduak

Meaning: "Will, Desire"

Age: Adult - 9 1/2 years

Pride: Mwanzo

Physical Appearance: A thick, bulky lioness, Uduak has clearly been through training to take down the bigger stuff. While not quick enough to chase down any antelope, for a wildebeest or water buffalo hunt, she's your gal! She takes great pride in her appearance, and thanks to many years of meticulous grooming and quick treatment of any wounds from pride healers, she proudly sports a soft, unscarred coat which she keeps in tight order at all times.

Personality:

Bullet; Green Honorable: Uduak takes great pride in her honor. She deals no low blows, and you will always know where you stand with her- she doesn't like lying, even the little white ones. Not to say she's above a little white lie, when she truly believes it will help, but it is uncommon.
Bullet; Green Ambitious: Not exactly in the sense you're thinking. Uduak has little thoughts for the throne- No, the heir is too young for her, and the king to old, it would never work out.. Though if called upon, who wouldn't take the chance to become queen? Uduak's ambitions lie elsewhere- she desires to be the best huntress the pride has ever seen, and be seen as an important figure within the pride- which she hasn't done too shabby with, at least in the department of being a damn good huntress- at least on her own.
Bullet; Green Mothering: Uduak can be a bit touchy with things, especially those she has adopted into her care. As an extremely mothering lioness with no cubs of her own, Uduak has a habit of taking in strays- young lionesses(Or, less commonly, lions), who either lost their mother, or have l ittle relationship with their parents. Currently, she tends to indulge this habit, since she is getting on in age and sees no likelihood of cubs in her future.
Bullet; Yellow Blunt: Despite her mothering nature, Uduak does not coddle. She is a strong believer of tough love- she will cuddle and treat her youngsters warmly when needed, but believes that if the youngsters are to reach their full potential, they must be pushed. She also has a zero-tolerance policy on bullshit and disrespect, and her own cub or not, cub or adult, she will not hesitate to box your ears if you're behaving shamefully! As far as adults go, she's still blunt- she just doesn't have to worry about urging you to learn and grow, she'll just call you out on your disgusting manners.
Bullet; Yellow Impatient: Uduak has no time for any of this. She is a very need-it-now sort of lioness. She has little patience for long hunts after finding a herd, and little patience for other lions- whether they're rude, arrogant, or just plain need coddling ALL THE DAMN TIME.
Bullet; Red Proud: The very best, like no one ever was- that's what Uduak believes herself to be. She has lived a long time and has accomplished much- other than the King himself, no lion other than she can claim as much, to her knowledge, and it's left a big head. She deserves respect and demands it- even if she must resort to blows. Should anyone else break this honorable lioness' beloved and personal code of honor, she's not above demanding a physical duel as retribution.
Bullet; Red Violent: As tender as Uduak is with younger lions of the pride, the same cannot be said for other adults, outsiders, or other species. As a large, strong lioness from a large, strong family, Uduak is not used to patching things with words. Cubs and children are one thing- anyone else who crosses Uduak or her family may find themselves not just facing her sharp words- but her sharp claws as well.
Bullet; Red Self-Interest: It's not that Uduak is not loyal- she is. She adores family, and nothing is more important than family- but that's just it. Uduak will do anything- and I do mean anything- for her family. Should a war come, Uduak will choose whichever side will ensure the survival of her family. Mwanzo, or not.

History:

Uduak was born to a pair of rogues in a litter of two- herself, and her brother. Early life was simple, and no different than any other rogue cub's- perhaps a little better off, if only due to the size of her family. Bigger cubs are usually stronger, and grow faster, and lions can better protect their little family. Uduak's mother, however, was a victim of her size. Still smaller than Uduak is today as an adult, her mother could never conquer her size, and failed to learn to use it in hunts. In short, she was a piss poor lioness, but she never stopped trying. Even once Uduak grew to an age where she could follow her mother on hunts, the lioness never stopped trying- brushing off and laughing at failed hunts, using them to teach her daughter what not to do. Uduak treasured these moments, and grew closer to her mother than her brother or father, who walked together in lessons of how to be a lion like Uduak did with her mother. Even today, Uduak looks back fondly on these days- even if she went hungry some days, the warmth and love she felt was worth it.

On the verge of her adolescent years, Uduak and her family came across the Mwanzo in their travels. After the combined motive of being unable to find prey, being old, and wanting a better future for their two cubs, the rogue family decided to stay and strengthen the growing pride. Uduak's mother did her best to retire- there were better huntresses, though she still had some years of being able-bodied left, and was rather unhappy within the pride, experiencing much friction with the other lionesses. Her father, on the other hand, took to his new duties like a bird to the air- he loved protecting the pride, and training the younger, smaller lions how to take down a larger opponent. That is, until he fell victim to a rogue attack. It would have been like any other wound, had it not infected. Her father fell with fever and could barely keep himself awake. After many months of struggle clinging to life, he passed to the stare. Eventually, without her mate to remind her why she remained in the pride, Uduak's mother came to what was left of her family with an ultimatum- she was leaving, and they could come or stay, but should they stay, they would likely not see her again.

Her brother refused to leave. This was the place his father loved- he had fought and died for the pride, for the land, and for him. He refused to forget and let that go to waste so easily, and this was where he could feel his father's spirit remain. If he let go of that, he lost his father. Uduak very nearly left with her mother- she loved her, and would be crushed without her, but then she thought of her brother. Her mother had few years left, especially as a rogue again. She'd likely find another mate, have a new family- her brother would have no one. He'd be all alone here, with father gone, and Uduak with her mother.

Uduak remained with her brother, and at almost 4 years of age, lost her mother and her father in one fell swoop, but at least she still had her brother.

After this, the pair were as thick as thieves. Though as adolescents they were learning more about their different trades and places in the pride, they would often teach each other what they learned- at least something that impacted or mattered for the other. After all, everyone should know how to feed themselves, and everyone should know how to defend themselves. Thanks to her mother's lessons in what not to do, Uduak was well on her way to not only overcoming her size in hunting, but also to using it to her advantage, though she still had along way to go. Not attractive like the other lionesses were, being far too 'manly' for most young lions, Uduak soothed the sting of her lack of a sweetheart with more training, gaining herself a workaholic reputation and a few bullies from her peers. This only fueled her to become a better hunter and lioness than they'd ever be- becoming better than them in ability and rank was better than the satisfaction of clawing their ears off and getting in trouble, or so she thought.

At age 7, Uduak had done well in her workaholic over-training- she was just as good as any of her peers, and better than some. More than she had hoped to ask for, seeing her mother hunt. She was happy- and then she met Tau. A strapping lion, though a bit small, and the first to ever show a romantic interest in Uduak. She was flattered- so flattered that she ignored his looks, and his borderline annoying habits, and they became sweethearts. It was a sticky sweet and not at all Uduak's style- yet she foolishly ignored the ill fit of the match- after all, when would someone like her get another chance? She refused to let her one chance at a family get away, a chance she often regrets.

One day, her sweetheart did not return from border patrol. It took two days before the pride found him, victim of a rogue attack. Having insisted he could take care of it himself, he had made a fatal mistake. Uduak shed no tears at the funeral. The feelings she held confused and upset her- she wasn't as sad as she thought she should be- she didn't wail like her mother had for her father, and her heart did not break like the other young lionesses liked to swoon about theirs would should their fellows never return from patrol. What she did feel was regret-regret that she hadn't felt the same way about him, regret that she had led him on, regret that she hadn't told him her true feelings before it happened. She hoped he found more peace in the stars with his ancestors, but she'd never be the same- and she'd never consider a mate until he met her standards and induced real affection in her, no matter how desperately she wanted a family. She'd never pity herself or a possible partner like that ever again.

Upon turning 8, Uduak had finally reached her goal- she was a damn good huntress, even excelling against most of her remaining peers, if not all. Though she could not speak for the lionesses she didn't grow up with competing against. One lioness in particular was disgusted by being shown up by Uduak- the first time it happened, she wouldn't shut up about how it was a fluke, no way the 'manly' huntress had out-hunted her, especially not alone and without a hunting party! The second time, she outright attacked Uduak verbally, demanding to know how she cheated and who was helping her until the lioness lost her temper- and boxed the other's big maw. So shocked was she, that Uduak was able to tackle her like a wildebeest, pinning her as the huntress looked up at her in shock. Uduak had some words as strong as her body that day- and made sure that she, and any other huntress, was welcome to test their ability against her, but she would not tolerate being berated or accused. And to this day, she'll accept respectful challenges- but try to underhand or berate her, and she will back up her words with her claws.

Other: Uduak is strictly heterosexual. No ladies for this lady.
